This was an immotional Video to watch ! And a subject that makes my blood boil at any time. I trully wish this message will flow to as many Sri Lankan residents as possible!

I now live in overseas but i still hate to see this happening in any where in the world for that matter.

I hope this is addressed strongly by the Government & possibly educated in the schools thoroughly to prevent & reduce this kind of behaviour!

    Sincerely!
    Denuki

  6. sam says:

Nicely done! Fortunately the sight of “cracked skulls”, burnt bodies, mass graves, tortured bodies, wantonly made homeless people are not shown!!!

  7. Kris P. says:

I was disgusted by the manner in which the young persons indiscriminately threw rubbish away and disfigured property and showed no respect for others.
The video came with the note- protect the environment- this video was a classic example of how NOt to do so.

  8. Sybil says:

A great video and sincerely hope the message will spread and the people will act to protect this beautiful country.

This is outstanding. Desma has once agiane has highlighted the vulnerable points in our society and provides advice to the future generation.

I for one learned a heck of alot. It further re-inforced on me soemthings that I leanred from my shcool headmaster Late S L A Rathnayaka when I was in grade 5. As wer ere about to leave on our scout camp he gave us strick instructions thta when we leave the camp site we make sure that we leave it in a better condition and not to ruin the site as there willbe many other scouts will be using it after us. This bit of advice stuck me todate.

  12. chris says:

It’s a global tragedy :( Hope the message sinks in ;)

  15. Sue says:

Awesome Video. But, not a good reflection on us. We’re all guilty of doing exactly the same thing we saw on this video. Shall we make a collective pact to stop ruining our beatiful country and it’s environment?

  16. Nimalka says:

This video is an eye opener to everybody in Sri Lanka. Intentionally or unintentionally the damage caused is beyond repair. Please get together to keep our little “pearl in the indian ocean” clean!

Marco Polo described this as the most beautiful island in the world.Very few places on earth can boast a natural environment of such beauty, diversity
and a recorded history of over 2000 years. All of us us are stakeholders.Feel rich, feel proud, but do protect it.

  21. A great song. Good scenery. All of them spoilt by the wanton action by
Careless behavioral patterns of young ones, who have studied even in the Universities, but not been educated. We feel sorry that this has not been
instilled in them in the learning institutions. Give this the best publicity
by making this the theme song in all TV broadcasts at important times like
    News, Sports, etc.

  22. M Y Zainuddeen says:

    A fantastic attempt

  23. Nihal says:

Everything starts at the school level. For the others it may be too late.

  24. boodee says:

I would even say at home :)

  25. Ivon says:

This should be an eyeopener for all law enforcemet agencies in our country. Why won’t they open their tentacles in this direction instead of mainely concentrating on trafic offenders.

Learn a lesson from the Master : Late President Ranasinghe Premadasa set the example by picking bits and pieces of waste on his path and putting them in the waste bin.

  26. Dilli says:

This is great.. it needs to be broadcasted on all TV stations as well, since i really feel we are not doing enough to save our lovely land from this type of people.. they are starting a new terrorism…polution!!

  27. S Werapitiya says:

A great aspiration and I personally appreciate your effort.

  28. Nice site, nice and easy on the eyes and great content too.

  30. Abdul Jaleel says:

It is a bellowing voice for the people who make Sri Lanka a basket of ‘kunu gode’! The baila of Desmond sending a benedictive message to the people to be proud of our beloved island;Yes we all have to change our behavior when it comes to environment.Let us make the earth a clean planet.

  31. Sunil R Wickremeratne says:

Wonderful song and the meaning of the visuals are superb. Why not telecast it.

  32. Devi says:

Great work. Hope it will be a good eye opener for everyone!

  33. Nalin says:

Happy to see someone whoe really thought of duing this type of video show where the majority of Sri Lankan’s attitude on environment. I would suggest to show this every channel and open the eyes. Also suggest Police Dep to have separte unit like traffic police and punish the people on the spot who are violating the law.

  34. Fazeera Lariff says:

I hope you won’t mind showing this clip, to all my students. This needs to get maximum publicity. I think we should begin by educating :
    * the children of politicians and rich kids because they are the main spoilt brats,
    * followed by the University students- they are the selfish and indifferent lot – caused by the unequal system of admission.
    * we can then proceed to show it to school children at the begining of the educational programmes telecast.

The most important question is: who will bell the cat?

  35. Devika says:

Beautifully done to highlight the gravity of littering in Sri Lanka. Should frequently telecast for the general public until they get the message. If not Sri Lanka will soon be another India. Parents and teachers should emphasize the importance of learning not to litter the environment to our children. If Dengue does not cause alarm what will?

  36. Marie says:

This is an excellent video on the destructive and selfish habits of Sri Lankans. It ought to be shown on national TV. One final word though, I feel that the video should also have incorporated examples of the responsible disposal of waste e.g. placing garbage in bags to be taken home and disposed or putting it into clearly marked bins and of course recycling glass and plastic containers.

  37. Superb blog post, I have book marked this internet site so ideally I’ll see much more on this subject in the foreseeable future!

  38. Firoze says:

An excellent video showing the disgusting attitude of us Sri Lankans. This shows that we have no love for our country nor the environment we live in – Is this patriotism. How can Fazeera Lariff single out that it is the politicians and rich kids in her comments. I stay on a road off Havelock road Colombo. The road I live on is cleaned by Abans thrice a week. Further down it crosses the canal and connects to the Kirillpone area where the CMC picks up the garbage irregularly. Trishaw drivers, cyclists, motorcyclists and pedestrians who use our road which is a short cut to Havelock Road dump their garbage in front of my gate and wall as well as my immediate neighbour in front and on my side as they are not visible to us. Therefore it is everyone – the rickh and poor alike. It is the upbringing at home.

  39. 1. Congratulations all responsible. An excellent effort from all angles – music, message, video. Situation is a global truth – a sin committed by all peoples in all countries except possibly Singapore. Follow Singapore’s example – make the laws (Copy theirs with permission. No need to re-invent the wheel!), create enforcement body, impose punitive punishment.

    2. Sad that preceeding comments are mainly finger-pointing. We are ALL of us guilty, even in a small way. Littering ourselves, not educating or correcting those for whom we are responsible e.g. our children, our staff, all levels of students, the young. As Buddhists, He taught us that WE CANNOT CHANGE ANYBODY, ONLY OURSELVES! BEGIN WITH ME, WITH YOU!

    3. Keep the visuals, translate the lyrics to other languages, gain international copyrights (YOU DESERVE THE REWARD FOR YOUR IDEAS AND WORK).

    4. This video emphasises the TRUTH – the negative aspects, the disease. Produce a second (Part II) video to the same tune with visuals, lyrics, etc showing the POSITIVE aspects – the remedy. Also, organise periodic, regular cleaning campaigns by voluntary bodies.

APE RATA, APE JATIYA, APE AGAMA! Jayawewa! Metta!

  40. Krishani Fonseka says:

When watching this clipping the first thing that came into my mind is, what have the higher ups done to curb this sort thing. We watch this, put our comments, have seminars and press confernances but no action is taken. The time has come to make Environmental Polution a punishable crime.

  41. Nipun Lakshitha says:

It is an excellent job done to make youth think twice before they harm their environment. Wish more and more people will see this and get the message. Everybody please share this.
